1. Responsible party

Mediacarte (PTY) LTD, trading as AfriInfra, is the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Information Officer: contact operations@afriinfra.net.

2. What we collect

Name, email, phone, institution and access-request details; sign-in records (time, device, browser, IP address, approximate country); payment records (amount, package, PayFast reference; we never see or store your card details); usage of credits and features; and messages you send to our AI tools.

3. Why we use it

To provide and secure your account (including sign-in codes and suspicious-activity alerts), process payments and receipts, review institutional access, send service emails you request, prevent fraud, meet legal obligations, and improve the platform.

4. Lawful basis

Performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running a secure service, compliance with law, and your consent where required (for example optional marketing, which you can withdraw at any time).

5. Who we share it with

PayFast (payments), Resend (email delivery), our hosting and AI service providers, and authorities where the law requires. Providers act on our instructions under confidentiality and security obligations. Some providers process data outside South Africa; we only use providers bound by adequate protection, as POPIA section 72 requires.

6. How long we keep it

Sign-in records 30 days; sign-in codes and reset links until they expire; payment and tax records 5 years as required by law; account data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards.

7. Security

Hashed passwords, emailed sign-in codes, account lockout, encrypted connections and access logging. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify you and the Information Regulator of any security compromise as POPIA requires.

8. Your rights

You may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to processing, or withdraw consent, by emailing us. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (inforeg.org.za).
